AMSN Wins Prestigious Award for Online COVID-19 Resources
PITMAN, NJ -- The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) has received an American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) silver Power of A® Award for its COVID-19 Staffing Toolkit, which supports institutions and nurses practicing on the frontlines of the pandemic and with the difficult issues of finding and placing staff during times of crisis.
The AMSN COVID-19 Resources selected for the award consist of a self-assessment survey that can help place new staff during the pandemic, a staffing model that can assist with managing patient workloads, and educational flash cards to help staff unfamiliar with the medical-surgical setting.
“It’s urgent that employers and nurses have the tools necessary to manage their workforces in a rapidly changing and very challenging work environment,” AMSN/MSNCB CEO Terri Hinkley, EdD, MBA, BScN, RN, CAE, said. “We realized as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic escalated that there would be a significant need for tools and resources to support staffing decisions. The recognition by ASAE of our program demonstrates the value it brings to nurses and other health care providers during a very challenging time.”
According to ASAE, the Power of A Award recognizes “...the extraordinary contributions associations make to society by enriching lives, creating a competitive workforce, preparing society for the future, driving innovation and making a better world.” The awards are among the highest industry honors for associations, spotlighting how these organizations come together every day to make America stronger.
“Congratulations to the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses on being named among the very best organizations that go above and beyond their tax-exempt purpose to improve society and our quality of life in our country and abroad,” said ASAE President and CEO Susan Robertson, CAE. “This has been a very trying year for associations, but even amid a months-long pandemic, associations are proving that positive change can happen. More than ever, the Power of Associations is on full display in this year’s award-winning programs, providing tangible evidence that associations will help lead the way toward economic and societal recovery in the months ahead.”
Hinkley said AMSN is dedicated to providing a wide range of education and support to nurses during the pandemic and beyond. The AMSN 2020 Convention will be a virtual event October 22-25, 2020, and will offer education sessions on the latest COVID-19 treatments, research, and advances. AMSN offers a separate COVID-19 resources for nurses section with curated content from all around the industry, as well as information on the free AMSN Staffing Toolkit, a poll to assist AMSN in gathering more data for future use, and grants and assistance for AMSN members. In addition, AMSN continues to curate educational, practical, and informational resources useful to all nurses and health care professionals.
