Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board Announces New Officers

PITMAN, NJ – The Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB®) recently named the following leaders to officer positions on its Board of Directors: President Charles "Wes" Foster MSN, BA, RN, CMSRN, OCN; Immediate Past President Antoinette Falker, DNP, RN, GCNS-BC, CMSRN, CBN; Treasurer Cynthia Frazer, MSN, RN, CMSRN, CNE; and Secretary Cathryn Kelly, MSN, RN, RD, CMSRN, CCTM.

All positions were effective as of January 1. Board members work together with the MSNCB staff to manage the organization. This includes determining policy, overseeing financials, and defining strategic direction to achieve MSNCB’s goals.

MSNCB’s focus is on certifying medical-surgical nursing, the largest nursing specialty in the U.S. The organization develops, administers and evaluates certification programs for registered nurses in areas of specialty practice to obtain the Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN®) certification. There are currently 40,000 nurses who have earned their CMSRN credential, one of the most prestigious achievements in medical-surgical nursing.

The leaders named above join the current board members: Director Jessica Tully, DNP, RN-BC, CMSRN, CNML, CENP; Public Member Kim Lipsey, MLS; AMSN President Ex-Officio Summer Bryant, DNP, RN, CENP, CMSRN, and CEO Terri Hinkley, EdD, MBA, BScN, RN, CAE.

About the New Officers

Wes Foster, who is from Glendale, AZ, is residential faculty at Mesa Community College, Glendale, AZ. His previous positions with MSNCB include serving on the CMSRN Item Writers Committee as member and chair. He has served on the MSNCB Board as a director since 2016.

Antoinette Falker, of Saint Louis, MO, is clinical nurse specialist for Trauma, Geriatric Trauma, Acute Care Surgery and Bariatrics at Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis, MO. She has been involved with MSNCB for 10 years, including her role as president from 2017 to 2021, and director from 2013 to 2016.

Cynthia Frazer, of Lexington, KY, has nearly 40 years nursing career experience in the USAF. She has been involved with MSNCB for over 10 years, including serving on the CMSRN Item Writers Committee as member and chair.

Cathryn Kelly, of Bethlehem, PA, is manager, Populytics Care Coordination, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Allentown, PA. She has been a board member since 2017.

“Certification is a mark of excellence in nursing and these medical-surgical experts will assist MSNCB in charting the path forward for our certificants and our specialty,” Dr. Hinkley said. “MSNCB is about to begin its strategic planning process for 2022-2024, and we’re excited to undertake the process with this distinguished and committed group of leaders.”
