British medical student Malone Mukwende asked his professors why all the textbooks and everything they were learning in medical school were focused on individuals with white skin.

Was he to glean from those lessons that even when he examined people of color, he would assess the same problems and concerns as their White counterparts?

March 31, 2021 CEO's Corner - April 2021 Trauma: Why We Need Connections More Than Ever

As nurses, we understand the word trauma and the implications of the resulting damage. I would guess you immediately envisioned a trauma bay in an Emergency Department, with someone with catastrophic injuries swarmed by a team of professionals working in orchestrated chaos to preserve life.

Every single team member has a job to perform, and oftentimes the life of the patient requires every single team member performing in concert, to have a chance at survival.

AMSN first spoke out on issues of DEI with an anti-racism pledge in June 2020. We committed to doing more and we have been working to make that happen. Asian hate crime is on the rise. According to two recent news articles, Asian hate crime spiked to unprecedented levels last year, with one source citing hate crimes were up almost 150% in 2020 compared to the year before.

Today on National Transgender Remembrance Day (November 20), I would like to talk to you about taking care of transgender affirmation surgical patients.

My unit has the privilege and honor of caring for individuals who have undergone affirmation surgery. We currently care for individuals undergoing Vaginoplasties. We did specialized training in sensitivity, cultural differences, and the care of surgical sites.
