March 16, 2021 Nursing Certification: Past & Present National Certified Nurses Day was established in 2006 in honor of Dr. Margretta Madden Styles, EdD, RN, FAAN.

She was an American nurse, author, educator, and nursing school dean who transformed the profession of nursing. Dr Styles was instrumental in developing stricter criteria and credentialling standards for nursing. She helped conceive and establish comprehensive standards for the national certifications of nurses. Certified Nurses Day is commemorated annually on her birthday March 19.

Asian hate crime is on the rise. According to two recent news articles, Asian hate crime spiked to unprecedented levels last year, with one source citing hate crimes were up almost 150% in 2020 compared to the year before.

This year AMSN is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It is exciting to think of everything AMSN has accomplished in the past 30 years and to look ahead to the future of medical-surgical nursing.
